Indian Army’s Golden Arrow Division Commemorates Diamond Jubilee of 1965 Victory at Asal Uttar

In Punjab, the Golden Arrow Division of Indian Army commemorated the Diamond Jubilee of India’s victory over Pakistan during the India-Pakistan War of 1965 at Asal Uttar, in Tarn Taran, today. Tributes were paid to the gallant soldiers whose indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice during the Battle of Asal Uttar and Battle of Barki turned the tide of the 1965 War in favour of the Nation.
 
Asal Uttar is the historic battlefield, remembered as the ‘Graveyard of Patton Tanks,’ as Indian Army destroyed over 95 Patton tanks and others here during the 1965 war.
The commemoration day was attended by War Veterans and Veer Naris including the family members of Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid. He was awarded the highest military honour, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumously) for his unmatched bravery in destroying advanced and upgraded enemy tanks and the supreme sacrifice he made in line of duty. All of them were honoured on the occassion.
Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria and General Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Command, Lieutenant General, Manoj Kumar Katiyar attended the event along with other military commanders and local citizens in large numbers.
