India has welcomed Russia’s offer for direct talks with Ukraine. Replying to a question in Media briefing, External Affairs Ministry’s Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that talks present an opportunity for both parties to address their concerns through dialogue and diplomacy. He said that New Delhi has consistently advocated the need for sincere and practical engagement between Russia and Ukraine to ensure early and abiding peace. Responding to a question on the ban on Awami League in Bangladesh, Mr Jaiswal said that the ban on the Awami League without due process is a concerning development. He said that as a democracy, India is naturally concerned about curtailing democratic freedoms and shrinking political space. The spokesperson added that India strongly supports the early holding of free, fair and inclusive elections in Bangladesh.
