India continues to be the leading source market for tourism in Sri Lanka, with over 1.5 lakh tourist arrivals in 2025.
The data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has revealed that India contributed over 17% to the 8.87 lakh tourist arrivals this year so far. Further, during the period from the 1st to the 28th of April, out of 1.65 tourists that travelled to Sri Lanka, almost 36,000 were Indians. The data also pointed out that there was a 13 per cent growth in tourist arrivals against the corresponding period last year.
The Russian Federation ranked second, followed by the United Kingdom in the top three tourist source markets after India.
Over 2 million tourist arrivals were reported in the year 2024, signalling a revival of the tourism industry. Sri Lanka aims to attract three million visitors in 2025, and according to the latest figures, it has reached nearly 30 percent of this goal.
