In a United Nations Security Council briefing on Afghanistan yesterday, India’s Permanent Ambassador to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish called for coordinated global action to prevent terrorist exploitation of Afghanistan.
He also said that India is closely monitoring the security situation in Afghanistan. He also added that India always supports international and regional cooperation to help Afghanistan and takes part in meetings like those in Doha to work towards this goal. India also welcomed Afghanistan’s strong condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Harish said any strategy for post-conflict Afghanistan must offer both rewards for positive steps and consequences for harmful actions. He warned that just punishing the Taliban won’t help and called for new, creative ways to support the Afghan people. Referring to the devastating earthquake that struck southeastern Afghanistan earlier this month, the Indian envoy recalled that India was among the first countries to provide aid.
