Coal Imports during April 2024 to February 2025 dropped by 9.2 per cent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. The Ministry of Coal, in a statement, said, during this period, coal imports in the country totalled more than 220 million tonnes as compared to nearly 242 million tonnes in the same period of the previous fiscal year. The Ministry added that this reduction has resulted in foreign exchange savings of approximately 6.93 billion dollars. The Ministry also stated that although coal-based power generation grew by 2.87 per cent from April 2024 to February 2025 compared to the previous year, imports for blending by thermal power plants sharply decreased by 38.8 per cent.
