India is witnessing historic democratization of opportunities, says Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh today said India is witnessing a historic democratization of opportunities. He said this has created an ecosystem where young people can discover their true aptitude, choose their own paths, and convert skills into sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing the National Skill Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology said India’s youth today are more enlightened than ever and stressed the need for mentors and institutions to listen to them. He highlighted the shift from degree-centric to skill-centric growth and said initiatives like the Aroma Mission have enabled thousands of young people to earn livelihoods without formal degrees.

The minister underlined that the past eleven years have seen an unprecedented surge in aspirations due to the democratization of opportunities. Dr Singh also said women and youth from tier-2 and tier-3 cities are redefining India’s growth narrative. The Minister further said that India already has immense talent, and what was missing earlier was prioritisation and enabling political support.
