India Emerges as Global Leader in Health Innovation: MoS Anupriya Patel

Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel today said that over the past decade, India has emerged as one of the most dynamic global health innovation ecosystems. Addressing the 114th foundation day of the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) in New Delhi, the Minister highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s health research ecosystem has strengthened and has become a very important pillar of Vikshit Bharat, driven by self-reliance, innovation as well as equity.
 
 
Mrs. Patel added that India’s research institutions have shown how public-private partnerships can turn discovery into delivery, reinforcing the spirit of Sabka Saath Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas.  She said the Department of Health Research and the Indian Council of Medical Research are collaboratively addressing national priorities ranging from antimicrobial resistance, rare diseases, to climate related health risks, and one health preparedness. The Minister further highlighted that ICMR’s ecosystem of the centres of excellence, the intent clinical trial network and Medtech Mitra, have nurtured more than 27 indigenous medical technologies, accelerating affordable innovation from lab to the real-life settings.
 
 
During the event, Mrs. Patel also launched the assistive technology guidelines and the assessment kit, jointly developed by IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi with the financial support of ICMR.
