In the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, defending champions India beat the Netherlands by 17 runs in the final Group A fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last night. Electing to bat first, India posted 193 for six in the stipulated 20 overs, with Shivam Dube scoring 66 off 31 balls.
In reply, the Netherlands managed 176 for seven in 20 overs. Indian bowler Varun Chakaravarthy claimed three wickets, while Shivam Dube picked up two. Dube was named Player of the Match for his impressive all-round performance. India will next face South Africa in their opening Super Eights match in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Earlier yesterday, in another Group A fixture, Pakistan defeated Namibia by 102 runs in Colombo to clinch the last remaining Super Eight berth. Put in to bat first, Pakistan posted 199 for three in 20 overs. Chasing the target, Namibia were all out for 97 in 17.3 overs.
In their final Group D match of the tournament, South Africa defeated the UAE by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi yesterday. South Africa easily overhauled the target of 123, losing four wickets in 13.2 overs, to enter the Super Eights. Batting first, the UAE made 122 for six in 20 overs.
Today,the West Indies will take on Italy at Eden Gardens in Kolkata at 11 AM, while Sri Lanka will face Zimbabwe in Colombo at 3 PM. Later, Afghanistan will play Canada at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai at 7 PM.
