India bag 10 medals in Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026 in Gandhinagar

India finished the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026 in Gandhinagar with 10 medals, including one silver and nine bronze, marking a big improvement from the previous edition in Jiangshan, where India had returned without a medal. Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Lovepreet Singh delivered India’s best performance on the final day by finishing fifth in the men’s 110kg+ category with a personal-best total lift of 386kg. He lifted 174kg in snatch and 212kg in clean and jerk. Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medallist, Gor Minasyan of Bahrain won gold in the super heavyweight category with a total lift of 457kg.

India’s only silver medal came from Gyaneshwari Yadav in the women’s 53kg snatch event, where she also won an overall bronze medal. Komal Kohar opened India’s medal account with bronze medals in the women’s 48kg category after replacing injured Olympic medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu. Ajith Narayana won two bronze medals in the men’s 71kg division, while Harjinder Kaur secured a bronze in the women’s 69kg snatch event. Sanjana also impressed by winning three bronze medals in the women’s 77kg category. The championships awarded separate medals for snatch, clean and jerk, and overall totals. This was only the second time India hosted the Asian Weightlifting Championships after New Delhi hosted it in 1982.
