India and Bhutan sign MoU on renewable energy cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today underlined the India-Bhutan relationship as one rooted in values of emotions, peace and progress. Addressing the media in Thimpu, India’s Ambassador to Bhutan, Sandeep Arya said that during his meeting with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Prime Minister described the partnership between the two countries as one of trust and development. During the meeting, the two leaders talked about the importance of connectivity and highlighted the importance of spiritual and religious ties related to Buddhism. The ambassador added that the Bhutan king appreciated the presence of sacred Buddhist relics from India.

 

Mr Arya informed that energy partnership was another key feature of the discussions. Both leaders underlined that the foundation of the hydro power partnership between India and Bhutan was laid during the period of the fourth King of Bhutan in the 1970s. He said that the two countries signed and exchanged an MOU on cooperation in the field of renewable energy, which will cover solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, green hydrogen and battery storage and energy storage in general, so this is a very good beginning. He further said that at the same meeting, there was an announcement of a line of credit of Indian rupees 4000, which translates into null from 40 billion.

 

Mr Arya said, the King of Bhutan led special prayers dedicated to India, to the Prime Minister and his vision for the future of India. He also dedicated the prayers to the victims and the people who suffered in the incident in Delhi yesterday.
