In Jammu and Kashmir, incessant rains have wreaked havoc across the Jammu division over the past 40 hours, starting late Monday night. All districts of the Jammu division are still receiving rain, though with lesser intensity. The downpour triggered flash floods and landslides, claiming several lives and leaving several others injured. The telecom department has activated intra-circle roaming across J&K, and the Railways have partially restored only two train services.
A major landslide near Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari on the Vaishno Devi Yatra route claimed multiple lives, prompting the suspension of the yatra. In Doda, four people lost their lives as flash floods washed away 15 houses and three footbridges in the Marmat and Tanta areas. Major rivers, including the Tawi, Chenab, Kalnai, and Ner, rose sharply, posing a threat to low-lying areas. Due to heavy rainfall,l the Tawi river is flowing above the danger mark and has caused major damage to the 4th Tawi bridge in the Bhagwati Nagar area. Multiple roads and Key highways, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), remain blocked due to landslides, shooting stones at multiple locations in Ramban district. Power supply and mobile networks have also been disrupted in several affected areas. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh have expressed grief over the loss of multiple lives in the landslide incident that occurred near Adhkuwari on the track of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, yesterday. They have extended condolences to the bereaved families, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident. The Prime Minister assured that the administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected people. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that the level of the river Tawi in Jammu has receded, but the river Chenab continues to flow close to the danger mark.
He said, SDRF, NDRF, Paramilitary, Army and Air Force authorities are closely coordinating with the civil administration. Meanwhile, NDRF has deployed multiple teams across the region. Nine teams have been stationed in Jammu, three each in Samba and Kishtwar, and one team each in Srinagar, Udhampur, and Reasi. These teams are actively assisting in rescue and relief operations to support affected communities. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today conducted a high-level review regarding the flood situation in Jammu. He spoke with Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and other senior officials to assess rescue and relief operations on the ground. The LG directed authorities to urgently restore power, communication, and water supply in areas where floodwaters have begun to recede.
The LG emphasised swift action to ensure public safety and minimise further inconvenience. Authorities remain on high alert as efforts continue to support flood-affected communities across the region. Chief Minister Omar Abdulla today visited flood-affected areas of Jammu to assess the situation on the ground. He inspected the damaged 4th Tawi Bridge and stressed the need for expert evaluation and permanent solutions to safeguard riverside houses. The CM assured that relief and NDRF support are being mobilised and promised all possible help for affected people. The Department of Telecommunications has activated intra-circle roaming across J&K.
This measure ensures that subscribers of all networks-including Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea-stay connected despite damage to telecom infrastructure. However, out of 18 cancelled trains from Katra, Udhampur and Jammu, only two train services have been restored from Jammu after a day-long suspension caused by relentless heavy rain. The restored trains are 15656, Jammu to Kamakhya via Moradabad, Bareilly, Gonda, and Darbhanga, and 14804, Jammu to Bhagat Ki Kothi via Amritsar, Bathinda, Hanumangarh, and Suratgarh.
