There is generally a cloudy sky over Kolkata and adjoining areas from early morning, with light to moderate scattered rainfall witnessed in many parts due to the effects of severe cyclone Montha.
The situation will remain the same till tomorrow. The regional meteorological centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Kolkata forecast heavy rainfall over the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur and adjoining Jhargram district. Yellow alert issued in Malda, North and South Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri districts of north Bengal.
Thunderstorm with lightning is predicted in many districts of West Bengal. The met department informed that due to weather phenomena related to the cyclone Montha, heavy incursion of moisture in the air, districts of north Bengal are likely to experience more rainfall compared to south Bengal.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough sea conditions till 30th October. A Jagadhatri puja pandal collapsed due to rain and a sudden storm at Chandannagar of Hooghly district yesterday. Two people had been injured in this incident.
