IMD issues orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over A&N Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim for the day. The weather agency forecasted heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep for today.

The Met Department has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Odisha, and Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Konkan, Goa, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and North Eastern States for the next two days. IMD has said Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha may experience heat wave conditions till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has estimated that maximum temperatures will rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the northwestern India lowlands till Wednesday and by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over western Himalayan India until the 19th of this month. The weather agency said that the Southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, many parts of the Andaman Sea and Andaman Islands, and the entire Nicobar Islands. According to the IMD, the Southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on the 26th of this month with a model error of plus or minus four days.
