IMD forecasts dense fog over multiple states till tomorrow

India Meteorological Department, IMD, says dense fog conditions are expected over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and the North-Eastern part of the country till tomorrow. The weather agency has further predicted dense to very dense fog over Punjab till the 27th of this month. Various parts of the country continue to grapple with dense fog, affecting day-to-day life.

In the National Capital Region, dense fog led to disruptions in air and rail traffic today. Talking to Akashvani News, an official from Delhi Airport said that around 14 flights were cancelled due to low visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Delhi Division of Indian Railways informed that the movement of several Delhi-bound trains was impacted, with over 35 trains delayed by more than three hours.

The IMD has predicted moderate fog conditions till forenoon, while shallow fog is likely during the night. Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi-NCR continues to remain in the Very Poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) the average Air Quality Index of the National Capital was recorded at 378 as of 7 PM today.

Delhi Government today held an Air Pollution review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. The government has said that to curb air pollution, no waiver will be given on Pollution Under Control certificates. It said that it has been observed that vehicle owners use Lok Adalats to reduce these fines, thereby eliminating the deterrent effect of the penalty. It instructed officials that the government would not hesitate to go to court if necessary to enforce this policy.

Furthermore, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has said that over two lakh PUC certificates have been issued since the launch of the No PUCC, No Fuel campaign. He urged private companies to follow GRAP-IV rules and warned of strict action against polluting and unauthorised industries.
