IMD forecasts heavy rain at several places in J& till Thursday; Flash flood alert for 12 districts

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltista and Muzaffarabad tomorrow.

 

The IMD said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is also very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana tomorrow. Strong Surface winds are expected at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, Goa, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu Puducherry and Karaikal.

 

 

Meanwhile, the weather department said that Delhi-NCR is likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

 

In Maharashtra, heavy rainfall was recorded in Marathwada and Vidarbha region. Konkan and Ghat regions too experienced rainfall today.

 

An orange alert has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg for tomorrow along with the ghat regions of Pune, Satara and Kolhapur. Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are likely to witness heavy rainfall at isolated places.

 

In Uttarakhand, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route has been blocked due to boulders near Lamari in Pithoragarh district. The Border Roads Organisation is working to restore the route.

 

Efforts are also underway on a war footing to reopen 54 blocked roads in the mountainous areas of the state.

 

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri and Tehri districts over the next 24 hours.

 

There is also a possibility of lightning and heavy rain in some hilly areas of the state.

 

In Kerala, fishing activities are banned in the coastal areas of Kerala and Lakshadweep till Friday, considering the prediction of heavy rain. 

Meanwhile, Meteorological Department has declared yellow alerts for Wednesday in nine districts of Kerala.

 

Orange alert is declared in five districts on 25th and four district on 26th of this month. It is also advised to avoid pleasure trips to tourist spots and journey to hilly areas till the alerts are withdrawn.
