IIT Delhi develops AI Lab Assistant “AILA” to conduct real scientific experiment

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi researchers have developed an AI- Agent AILA- Artificially Intelligent Lab Assistant. This system works on an AI Agentic Framework that can conduct real scientific experiments like a human scientist. AILA has a simple chat interface like a chatbot where the instructions are given in English language and the agent converts them into code and performs the experiments.

Demonstrating the model, the research scholar Indrajeet Mandal informed that the research focused on the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), an intricate scientific instrument used in material research. He said that AILA can control the Atomic Force Microscope instrument and make real-time decisions during experiments, and analyse results independently.

Talking to the media, Professor Anoop Krishnan said that technology like AILA can transform India’s scientific ecosystem. He added that this system can save time by completing experiments in minutes and saving manpower.
