IAF helicopters conduct relentless aerial firefighting in Dzükou Valley

Following the forest fire that broke out at the iconic Dzukou Valley on January 26, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have continued their relentless efforts to contain the blaze that has ravaged large portions of the valley.

According to updates from the Kohima District Administration, the southern, eastern, and western ranges of Dzükou Valley in Nagaland have largely been burnt, with only residual smoke reported in some pockets.

However, due to the steep terrain and lack of motorable access in critical zones, ground-based firefighting operations remain extremely challenging.

To prevent further escalation, the Indian Air Force has deployed Mi-17 V5 helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets for aerial water-dousing operations. The helicopters have been carrying out continuous water-dropping missions under difficult conditions, including steep slopes, poor visibility, and rarefied air.
