Home Ministry sanctions projects worth over four thousand 600 crore rupees across nine states to make India disaster-resilient

A High-Level Committee, under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has approved a number of mitigation, recovery and reconstruction projects having a total outlay of over four thousand six hundred and forty-five crore rupees. It will benefit nine states: Assam, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The Union Home Ministry said that to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a disaster-resilient India, the Ministry is providing all necessary support to states and Union Territories.

The committee has approved the restoration and rejuvenation of wetlands plan of over 692 crore rupees for Assam. The implementation of this project will enhance wetland capacity, create flood storage, increase flood resilience, protect the aquatic environment and help in economic growth through improved fisheries infrastructure.

The High-Level Committee has also approved the Urban Flood Risk Management Programme Phase-2 for eleven cities. This includes Bhopal, Bhubhaneshwar, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kanpur, Patna, Raipur, Trivandrum, Vishakhapatnam, Indore and Lucknow, with a total financial outlay of more than two thousand 444 crore rupees to be funded from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund.

The Committee, comprising the Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog as members, considered the proposal for financial assistance to the State from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund. The Central Government released four thousand and twelve crore rupees from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund to 21 states and 372 crore rupees from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund to nine states.
