Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today virtually launched the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s counter-IED and internal security architecture.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah said that Inter-agency coordination will also be much better with the launch of the new system. He said, it will be a very effective way of delivering the right information at the right time and in the right place. Developed by the National Security Guard (NSG), the NIDMS is a secure national-level digital platform aimed at enabling the systematic collection, collation and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices.
Mr Shah said that NIDMS will enable ATS units, the police, and the CAPFs across the country to access and use a wide range of data available online. He added that the system will function as a two-way platform.
Mr Shah underlined that in the coming times, the NIDMS will serve as a new protective shield by providing data for analysis during investigations of terrorist incidents across the country, wherever explosions have taken place or IEDs have been used.
Mr Shah said the Home Ministry has generated various kinds of data over the past years, but until now, it has existed in silos. He said that efforts are now being made to connect all these data sources and develop an advanced, artificial intelligence (AI) based software for their analysis. He expressed confidence that NIDMS would accelerate this process and termed it an important milestone towards making the country safe from terrorism.
