Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting in New Delhi to assess the progress of National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), and Bharatiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Ltd (BBSSL).
Addressing the meeting, Mr Shah stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the three national cooperative institutions were established in 2023 with the aim of serving as umbrella organisations for cooperative exports, organic production, and the promotion of quality seeds. He emphasised that these initiatives are being operated under the ‘Whole of Government’ approach, in collaboration with the concerned ministries, departments, and agencies.
The home minister set an ambitious target of two lakh crore rupees in exports for NCEL, focusing on three new and specific products that are not currently being exported from India. He also directed that all exports from cooperative institutions be routed through NCEL, projecting a turnover of twenty to thirty thousand crore rupees, with net profits after taxes and operating costs returning to the cooperatives.
Mr Shah further suggested establishing NCEL offices in Africa and Myanmar for pulse imports and proposed the development of a dedicated website to help cooperative members understand global demand and share their supply capacities.
