HM Amit Shah announces nationwide anti-drug campaign starting March 31

Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that a collective nationwide campaign against drugs will be launched from 31st March this year. The campaign, which will run for three years, aims to make the country drug-free. Mr Shah made the announcement while chairing the 9th Apex-Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) in New Delhi yesterday. He said, in the fight against drugs, all departments of the Central Government should prepare a roadmap up to 2029 and establish a time-bound review mechanism for its implementation. The Home Minister said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has achieved considerable success in combating the drug menace.
 
To achieve the goal of a drug-free India, Mr Shah stressed the need to adopt a collective and ruthless approach towards dismantling the drug supply chain, along with a strategic approach towards demand reduction. He added that the Government’s stance is very clear and that there should be no compassion for those who manufacture or sell drugs.
 
Mr Shah informed that between 2014 and 2025, drugs weighing one crore eleven lakh kilograms and valued at one lakh seventy-one thousand crore rupees were seized. He directed all departments to prepare their roadmaps by 31st March to tackle the drug problem. The Home Minister also highlighted the crucial role of Forensic Science Laboratories in the fight against drugs and appealed to all Directors General of Police to prepare state-level roadmaps and take concrete steps for the timely destruction of seized drugs.
