Due to the impact of an active western disturbance over the Himalayan region, intermittent snowfall has continued since last night in the tribal and higher altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, while continuous rainfall has been occurring since last night in the plains and mid-hill regions of the state. At popular tourist destinations such as Manali, Atal Tunnel Rohtang, Kufri, Narkanda, and Khadapathar, light and intermittent snowfall has been reported since this morning.
In the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, snowfall has led to the closure of 26 roads, including several major routes, for vehicular movement. Considering the prevailing weather conditions, the district administration has advised local residents, especially tourists, to avoid unnecessary travel. In Kinnaur district, light snowfall has also been reported on higher peaks since last night.
Widespread rainfall in Sirmaur district has raised concerns among wheat and strawberry growers.
The ongoing rain and snowfall across the state have caused a sharp drop in temperatures, giving people a feel of December-like cold even in the month of April. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall and hailstorms at isolated places in three districts – Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu – for today.
