Under the Udaan scheme, helicopter services to Chandigarh, Kullu and Reckong Peo have commenced today from the Sanjauli Helipad in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off the first helicopter flight to Reckong Peo, formally inaugurating the heli-taxi service.
After receiving approval from the Central Government, daily helicopter flights to Chandigarh, Kullu and Reckong Peo have started from the Sanjauli Helipad in Shimla from today. In addition, helicopter services between Chandigarh and the Sanjauli Helipad will operate three days a week, on Monday, Friday and Saturday.
On the occasion of the launch, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the start of helicopter services will boost tourism in the state and also save people’s time. It is noteworthy that these services have been started under the Udaan scheme, under which 80 per cent of the cost of operating the heli-taxi service will be borne by the Central Government and 20 per cent by the State Government.
