Himachal Pradesh again reeling under heavy monsoon rain

Normal life has once again been thrown into disarray in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy monsoon rains. Landslides triggered by the downpour have blocked 398 roads across the state, including three national highways. Additionally, 682 power transformers and 151 drinking water supply schemes are currently non-functional.

As per the State Emergency Operations Centre, heavy rain, cloudbursts, and landslides over the past 24 hours have claimed two lives and caused significant damage to infrastructure and agriculture-five houses, one bridge, and vast areas of standing crops have been affected. In the Kaza sub-division of Lahaul-Spiti, torrential rain, hailstorms, and flash floods have devastated nearly 90 percent of the agricultural produce, dealing a severe blow to local farmers. Meanwhile the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours across the state.
