Heavy Snowfall Hits Darjeeling Hills in West Bengal

The high mountain ridges in Darjeeling Hills of West Bengal has received heavy snowfall. Since the day before yesterday, the area is getting moderate to heavy rainfall in all low-altitude areas, where as upto 6 to 10 feet of snowfall in famous tourist areas of Sandakphu and Falut. As per latest report few tourists have been stuck in the area.

The district police has launched rescue operations and also advise the tourist not to visit the area till the connectivity is restored. Due to the heavy snowfall in the areas, the tourists and district tourist operators are seen happy. Late snowfall in this world’s famous tourist places of Sandakphu and Falut is expected a record tourist footfall in the coming days.

After a gap of two decades, Darjeeling Hills received such heavy rain and snowfall at the end of March. Normally, during winter the hills get rainfall and snowfall. But during this winter there was no rainfall and very poor snowfall. As per a climate expert, these are the effects of climate change. Normally, after the Holy Festival, the temperature in the Hills, Doars and Plains gradually increases and summer gets start. But due to this weather return the temperature in Darjeeling Hills and Siliguri Plains has been dropped down to 15 to 22 degrees Celsius.
