Heavy Snowfall and Rain Hit Nepal’s Mountain Regions

Currently there is an impact of the westerly winds as well as the low-pressure system formed in the Arabian Sea, resulting in the generally cloudy situation across Nepal today. Temperature dipped in Kathmandu valley with light rain today afternoon.
 
 
The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology stated that some places in the high hills and mountain regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces are likely to see heavy snowfall and rain tonight. Terai region also received light rainfall.
 
 
Manang and Mustang, the two trans-Himalayan districts in Gandaki Province, experienced heavy rains in the last 24 hours. It heavily snowed in the Muktinath Temple area which is a popular shrine for both Hindus and Buddhist. In the last 24 hours, Chame of Manang and Jomsom of Mustang received heavy rains. Besides Manang and Mustang, various other districts experienced moderate rain in the past 12 hours.
 
 
Mountain districts of Bagmati have experienced heavy snowfall, while the lower regions recorded rain. The northern belt in Gorkha district has received snowfall since last light. The villages above an altitude of 3,000 meters are covered with snow. Meanwhile, the tourists and trekkers in the Manaslu region have been affected after the snowfall. The tourists visiting Larke pass have stayed halfway after the snowfall in Manaslu region.
 
 
Heavy snowfall has occurred in the Sagarmatha (Everest) region since early this morning. Snowfall is taking place in areas in Khumbu Rural Municipality, while rainfall is reported in Namche Bazaar and the surrounding lower areas. Currently, there are over 3,000 foreign tourists in this area. The District Administration Office in Everest region has advised tourists not to travel as the trekking routes are invisible due to the snow cover and the possible risk of tourists getting lost. Incessant snowfall and rain have increased the cold. Continuous snowfall has affected daily life in the Khumbu region.
 
 
Snowfall has been recorded at Annapurna Base Camp, which is situated above Machhapuchchhre Base Camp in Kaski. The snowfall has been occurring since Monday evening. The area below ABC is receiving rainfall. Visitors have been urged to take precautions during trekking.
