In Telangana, reservoirs over the Krishna and Godavari Rivers are nearing critical levels following incessant heavy rains in the catchment areas. Reservoirs, including Sri Ram Sagar Project, Sripada Yellampalli and Nizamsagar projects over River Godavari and its tributaries, are under pressure with heavy inflows following heavy rains.
The Authorities have opened gates to prevent overtopping and to balance irrigation needs, drinking water supply and flood safety. Meanwhile, River Godavari is rising at Bhadrachalam, prompting alerts. Despite there is some respite in rains during the past 24 hours, especially in North and East Telangana districts, flood inflows are expected to rise as heavy rains are reported at the upper riparian areas of major rivers in the state. Daily life has been severely hit, with families displaced in rain-hit areas, especially in the North and East Telangana districts.
In Adilabad, a family of four which struck by flood waters was rescued by the NDRF teams using ropes. Many residents from low-lying areas were forced to leave their homes. Meanwhile, district collectors in the state have begun assessing the damage. Infrastructure has been hit hard, while road access has been cut off to dozens of villages in various districts. Dozens of other villages are marooned in the rain-hit areas. Crops in thousands of acres, especially cotton and paddy submerged in Medak, Sanagareddy and Siddipet districts. Meanwhile, the Met officials forecast rain for the next 3 days.
