Heavy Rains Lash Telangana Following Cyclone Montha, IMD Issues Red Alert

 
Heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana following the landfall of severe cyclonic storm Montha in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Karimnagar, Siddipet, and Khammam received extremely heavy rainfall of above 20 cms in one day. Bheemadevarapale of Hanumakonda recorded the highest of 422 mms of rainfall till 5 AM this morning has been among the worst affected, with Hyderabad also witnessing steady rain through the day.
 
 
The IMD has issued a red alert of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall for 8 districts including Warangal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rajanna Sircilla. Over a dozen districts have been issued a flood alert today. The state has pressed NDRF and SDRF teams into action for the rescue and relief of people stranded in waterlogged areas. Several trains including the Konark Express, Golconda Express among others were cancelled, and several trains were diverted due to flooding at Dornakal Junction in Mahabubabad district. 
 
 
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed the officials to stop vehicular traffic on low-level bridges and causeways that are flooded with heavy rains. Police and Revenue officials have been asked to set up barricades near the flooding bridges and monitor them.
