Heavy rainfall across several parts of Kerala today led to rising water levels in rivers and dams and caused waterlogging in low-lying areas. IMD has issued an orange alert for nine northern districts today. Yellow alert was also issued to the remaining five districts of the state today. The weather department also predicted strong surface winds up to 40 kmph, likely at one or two places in all districts of the state.
The shutters of dams were opened to release excess water in Palakkad district. Meanwhile, the authorities issued danger alerts for the Manimala and Mogral rivers in Pathanamthitta and Kadargod districts, respectively, as the water level rose significantly.
Residents living along the banks of these rivers were advised to remain vigilant and be prepared to move to safer locations as per the instructions of the authorities. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea till Tuesday.
