Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging in Puducherry, Paddy Fields Submerged in Karaikal

Puducherry and Karaikal regions have been experiencing intermittent heavy rains since last night with the onset of the northeast monsoon. Several low-lying residential areas in Puducherry, including Krishna Nagar, Venkita Nagar, and Rainbow Nagar, reported waterlogging after a heavy spell of rain this morning that lasted for over two hours, followed by intermittent showers through the day. Public Works Department personnel are engaged in pumping out water from affected areas.
In the rural areas like Karikkalampakkam, rainwater has stagnated in agricultural fields, submerging paddy crops spread over nearly 200 acres and causing distress among farmers.
The Office of the Deputy Director of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare, Karaikal, has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from today until further notice and urged those already at sea to return immediately.
