The Regional Met department has said that the rainfall activity will increase over the Western Ghats area today. The situation is due to an east-west trough which runs from an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha to coastal Karnataka. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely along the western ghat areas during 13 to 17th, with extremely heavy rain at one or two places over Nilgiris District on 14th and 15th.
Akashvani Correspondent reports that the Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to light rainfall in southern districts in the State and a heavy rainfall warning to ghat areas of Tirunelveli, Theni and Kanyakumari districts. But in the Nilgiris Hills, it’s been raining for the past two days, and a warning for extremely heavy rains has been issued for the next two days. The District administration has issued an advisory to tourists to check the status of rainfall on official social media handles before travel. According to the District administration, a 30-member team from the National Disaster Rescue Force and 43 rescue teams from the State force have been kept ready to attend to any eventuality. People have been asked to stay indoors and stay away from taking refuge under trees during the rains.
