In Telangana, low-lying areas have been inundated at several places in Adilabad, Khammam and Mancherial districts yesterday due to incessant heavy rains that are lashing for the past few days. The downpour caused waterlogging on roads and inundation in low-lying areas at several places. Rivulets and other are on spate leading to disruption of road links between villages.
Officials estimate the loss at hundreds of crores as work to rebuild the roads is going on. State Roads and Buildings Minister K. Venkat Reddy reviewed the situation yesterday with senior engineers.
He said damage has been reported at 454 spots, covering 629 km of the road network. Of these, 22 stretches were washed away, with traffic restored on four through temporary measures. Connectivity disruptions at 108 critical points have been partially resolved, with 71 locations already cleared.
He asked engineers to conduct immediate inspections at culverts, causeways, and bridges, and to closely coordinate with the police, irrigation, revenue, electricity, and Panchayat Raj departments.
