Health Ministry highlights multi-organ donation at Command Hospital in Haryana

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has highlighted a remarkable case of multi-organ donation at Command Hospital, Chandimandir, in Haryana, where the family of a brain stem dead woman saved four lives through organ donation.

The Health Ministry said that the 41-year-old woman, wife of a serving Indian Army Colonel, was declared brainstem dead on the 2nd of May following a severe brain haemorrhage. In a courageous decision amid personal grief, her husband and two daughters consented to donate her organs, including the heart, kidneys, liver and pancreas, enabling life-saving transplants for four critically ill patients, including a 14-year-old boy.

It added that the swift clearances and efficient logistics ensured timely transportation of organs to leading medical institutions such as PGIMER Chandigarh, Army Hospital (Research and Referral), and Indraprastha Apollo Hospital. It said the case also marks the first-ever heart retrieval at Command Hospital Chandimandir, a significant milestone in strengthening organ donation capabilities at the facility.

The Ministry has described the act as an example of compassion and national solidarity. It reiterated its commitment to strengthening the organ donation framework in the country and urged citizens to come forward and support this life-saving cause.
