Ahead of the counting for the Haryana Rajya Sabha election, both Congress and BJP have raised objections regarding the secrecy of votes by certain MLAs. The objections allege that ballot papers were shown to unauthorised persons during voting, violating secrecy rules. The Congress has lodged an objection regarding the ballot cast by BJP MLA and cabinet minister Anil Vij, questioning whether voting secrecy was maintained. The BJP, in turn, has objected to the votes cast by Congress MLAs Parmveer Singh and Bharat Beniwal. The party alleged that while showing their ballot papers to authorised polling agents, the secrecy of the vote was not properly maintained and that the marked ballots were visible to people other than the authorised agents.
Counting of votes will begin only after the returning officer makes a decision on these objections. Party sources said that, meanwhile, Congress Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to the Election Commission alleging ‘interference’ in the Rajya Sabha polls in Haryana.
