Gujarat to Celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary with Prayer Meets and Cultural Programs

Gujarat, the Home state of Mahatma Gandhi, will host a series of activities to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will attend the prayer meet at Kirti Mandir, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi in Porbandar. Similarly, the All Faith prayer will also be organised at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad this morning. Schools and colleges across districts will host seminars and cultural programs on Gandhi’s philosophy, while large-scale cleanliness drives will reinforce his vision of cleanliness. Our correspondent reports that 30 per cent special market promotion assistance will be provided to Khadi and polycloth in the state from Gandhi Jayanti.
 
 
 
Taking forward the Gandhian vision of Swadeshi, the State-run Khadi outlets will launch special discount sales from today to support rural artisans and promote the spirit of the spinning wheel. In line with the call of PM Modi for Vocal for Local and “Har Ghar Swadeshi – Ghar Ghar Swadeshi, the state government has declared a 30% discount on khadi as well as handloom products from today. Consumers will get this benefit as compensation on Khadi purchases till December 31 of this year. The Khadi Board will organise Khadi and Polyvastra exhibition-cum-sale fairs at multiple locations across the state on this Gandhi Jayanti.
