A high-level delegation led by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi concluded its visit to Sri Lanka today after accompanying the Holy Devnimori Relics of Lord Buddha for their first-ever international exposition in Colombo. The relics, brought from India on February 4, are currently on display at the Gangaramaya Temple. During the visit, the delegation called on Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Parliament and thanked her for the warm reception accorded to the sacred relics. The Indian leaders also met Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Industry Minister Sunil Handunneththi and Buddhasasana Minister Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in economic, cultural and tourism sectors.
The delegation interacted with members of the Gujarat-origin community in Sri Lanka and attended the “Friends of IBC Reunion” organised by the International Buddhist Confederation. Next week, a delegation led by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel and Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will visit Sri Lanka for the conclusion of the exposition and return of the relics to India.
