Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) Secretary Sanjeev Chopra today said that the government has done a total procurement of 256 lakh metric tonnes of new season wheat this year so far. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, he said that the government is aiming to achieve its target of 312 lakh metric tonnes by the end of this year. He added that wheat procurement is easier for farmers now, when they are getting the full facility of online registration, timely weighing and payment at the Minimum Support Price within 48 hours.
Talking about the Sugar Control Order 2025, the secretary said that earlier, the government was getting data manually from sugar mills, but now, through the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, the government has created a comprehensive software solution. He said that the revision of the order aims to simplify and streamline the regulatory framework governing the sugar sector in line with current industry dynamics and technological advancements.
