Govt prioritising handloom goods, targeting three fold increase in 2030, says Joint Director of Handloom Export Promotion Council

The Joint Director of the Handloom Export Promotion Council,  Dr. Sundar Murugesan has said that the Government has been prioritising handloom goods thereby targeting a three fold increase in 2030.
 
 
 
 
Tamil Nadu contributes for 28 percent of total employment in the textile manufacturing hub. Coimbatore, Tirupur, Karur, Erode and Salem have different clusters in textile manufacturing. In an exclusive interview to Akashvani, he said that India is a preferred country with the UK for a very long period of time resulting in the free trade agreement. 
 
 
 
 
Tamil Nadu has its potential in finished products like carpets, woven garments, floor covering which amounts to a total of 1.2 billion US dollars. It is likely to increase to five billion US dollars in 2030. The State marks its overwhelming presence in all the industry sub sectors like spinning, handloom weaving, power loom weaving, processing knit wear, apparel, Garments and home textiles.
 
 
 
 
It is the leading textile manufacturing hub in the Country and accounts for 28 percent of total employment in the textile sector and contributes 20 percent of the total exports of ready made garments from India.
