The Government has enhanced the Budget allocation of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare from 21,933 crore during 2013-14 to 127,290 crore during 2025-26. This was stated by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Bhagirath Choudhary, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today. He said that the government has launched various schemes for the welfare of farmers by increasing production, remunerative returns and income support. He said that 18 thousand 825 clusters have been formed, covering 9 lakh hectares and the registration of 19 lakh farmers so far. The Minister added that urea is provided to the farmers at a statutorily notified Maximum Retail Price irrespective of the cost of production. The Government has also taken various initiatives to promote farming as a viable career option for youth. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has set up 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the rural districts of the country.
