Govt Dismisses Viral Claim of 5–10 Day Oil Reserves in India

The Government has debunked social media posts claiming that India has only five to ten days of oil reserves left. The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) informed that the claims are misleading. The Unit added that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in the country. It also said that the fuel supply situation remains stable, secure, and continuously monitored. PIB further said that India maintains a total reserve capacity of approximately seventy-four days, with the current stock cover at around sixty days. It highlighted that this includes crude oil, petroleum products, and strategic reserves stored in underground caverns, ensuring nearly two months of assured fuel availability nationwide. The Government has advised the citizens to not to panic and to rely only on verified information issued by official government sources regarding fuel and gas availability.
