Government says, no penalty or action for 3 months for delayed registration of Waqf properties on UMEED Portal

Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has assured that the government will not impose any penalties and strict action for the next three months against those who have not registered waqf properties on the UMEED Portal.

He said, today is the last day, and lakhs of properties have still not been registered. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr Rijiju said that the decision was taken after several Members of Parliament and community representatives requested additional time, citing challenges faced by mutawallis in completing the process. He urged mutawallis, the custodians of Waqf properties, to approach the Waqf Tribunal if they are still unable to complete the process within the grace period.

The Minister said that the Supreme Court was clear on its instructions that the date cannot be extended after the six-month deadline, but the tribunal has the authority to extend it further by upto six months if there is an issue in the registration process. Mr Rijiju said, more than one lakh 51 thousand Waqf properties have been registered till now on the UMEED Portal.
