The Government today said that 99.92% of villages in the country are covered with banking outlets within a radius of 5 kilometres. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that 100% of villages in the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli are also covered with banking outlets. He said the endeavour of the Government is to ensure the availability of banking outlets within five kilometres of all inhabited villages in the country. He said that major impediments in the augmentation of banking infrastructure are a lack of connectivity and infrastructure, along with the non-availability of suitable premises.
