Over 17 crore rupees have been approved under Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan to provide funding support for development and renovation of Tribal Homestays and village community requirements. Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed this in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today. He said, the scheme envisages developing homestays in tribal areas to promote responsible tourism and enhance livelihood opportunities for tribal communities.
Mr Shekhawat said, the scheme focuses on providing financial assistance of up to five lakh rupees for village community requirements, up to five lakh for the construction of two new rooms for each household, and up to three lakh rupees for the renovation of existing rooms for each household.
