The government has refuted claims of a notice purportedly issued in the name of BSNL, claiming that SIM KYC of customers have been suspended by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and that their SIM cards will be blocked within 24 hours.

The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau, in a social media post, has called the notification fake and cautioned citizens to be aware of such notices. It said BSNL never sends such notices.
