Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today said that the Government is accelerating the country’s clean energy transition with a strong focus on building indigenous capacities and technologies. Addressing the Planet C3 (Climate, Circularity, Community) Summit in New Delhi, Dr Singh said India’s clean energy push is part of a broader national strategy aimed at reducing import dependence and positioning the country as a global leader in the shift towards a greener future. He highlighted that critical sectors such as electric mobility, renewable energy and electronics are increasingly dependent on resources like lithium and rare earth magnets and emphasized the need to strengthen domestic production capabilities.
Dr. Singh noted that nuclear energy will play a key role in meeting future energy demands, especially with the rise of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, which require a reliable power supply. He said nuclear energy is being developed as a dependable source to support such future demands, with the Nuclear Energy Mission targeting a significant increase in capacity by 2047 through a phased and time-bound approach. Dr Singh further said the government has adopted a mission-mode approach to support its clean energy and technology ambitions, with initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India AI Mission, National Quantum Mission, and biotechnology programmes forming part of a broader, interconnected strategy. He highlighted that initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the India AI Mission are part of an integrated approach to innovation and sustainability. He further noted that the country’s startup ecosystem is expanding rapidly, contributing to employment and technological growth, with increasing participation of women entrepreneurs.
