Government disburses over 1,500 crore rupees under 15th Finance Commission across eight states to Boost Rural Local Governance

The Government has disbursed over 1,500 crore rupees under the Fifteenth Finance Commission across eight states to Boost Rural Local Governance. These states are Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttarakhand. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj said that the releases cover regular installments and withheld portions pertaining to various financial years, aimed at further strengthening rural local governance across these states. The Untied grants are utilized by Panchayati Raj Institutions for location-specific felt needs under the twenty-nine subjects enshrined in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, except for salaries and other establishment costs. It added that the Tied grants can be used for the basic services of sanitation and maintenance of Open Defecation Free status, including management and treatment of household waste. The Ministry further said that the grants will also be used for the supply of drinking water, rainwater harvesting and water recycling.
