Goa marked its 64th Liberation Day today

On the occasion, President Droupadi Murmu hailed the freedom fighters for their unwavering resolve and unflinching dedication. In a social media post, the President said the nation remembers with gratitude the bravehearts who fought relentlessly to liberate Goa from colonial rule. President Murmu wished the people of Goa a bright and prosperous future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the indomitable spirit of those who refused to accept injustice and fought for freedom with courage and conviction. In a social media post, Mr Modi said their sacrifices continue to inspire the government and citizens to work towards the all-round progress of Goa, noting that the day remains a defining chapter in India’s journey.

Home Minister Amit Shah extended his best wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion. In a social media post, he recalled the great sacrifices made by patriots. Hailing freedom fighters such as Vaidya, Bala Raya Mapari, Nanaji and Jagannath Rao Joshi, Mr Shah expressed gratitude and bowed to them for enduring immense hardship for Goa’s freedom. He noted that until 1961, Indians had to obtain permission to visit Goa, and it was due to these sacrifices that Goa became an integral part of India.
