In Chess, German Grandmaster Vincent Keymer maintained his lead at the Chennai Grand Masters 2025 after drawing his second consecutive game, this time against GM Vidit Gujrathi in Round 5 yesterday.
Keymer stays one point ahead of Arjun Erigaisi, who also drew his game against Pranav V. The two leaders will face each other on day 6, with Keymer playing white.
In the Masters section, Jorden van Foreest scored the only win of the day by defeating GM Ray Robson, bringing both players to 2 points. Nihal Sarin drew with Awonder Liang, while Anish Giri and Murali Karthikeyan also shared the point.
The Challengers section saw strong performances from the black pieces. Leader GM Abhimanyu Puranik beat GM Harika Dronavalli, extending his lead to 4.5 points. IM Harshavardhan GB also won with black against GM Vaishali Rameshbabu. GM Leon Luke Mendonca and GM Pranesh M drew, keeping them in joint second, while GM Iniyan Pa and GM Diptayan Ghosh also shared the point.
