Geospatial technologies emerging as key driver of infrastructure development: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today said that geospatial technologies are emerging as a key driver of infrastructure development, national security and disaster management in the country. Addressing the inaugural session of GeodCon‑26 in New Delhi, Dr Singh noted that the geospatial sector in India has witnessed a significant transformation over the past decade.

The minister said the revamping of institutions such as the Survey of India and the introduction of the National Geospatial Policy 2022 have opened new opportunities for innovation and research in the geospatial domain.

Dr Singh said that geodesy and geospatial technologies are now playing an important role in areas such as satellite navigation, climate monitoring, disaster response and economic planning. He said these technologies are becoming fundamental to scientific research and governance and will contribute significantly to the country’s global engagement and emerging technologies.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of collaboration among academia, research institutions, industry and startups to strengthen the geospatial ecosystem in the country. He said initiatives such as the National Centre for Geodesy and regional research centres will help build a strong knowledge network and promote advanced research in the sector.

Dr Singh expressed confidence that platforms like GeodCon-26 will bring together stakeholders from different sectors and encourage knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation. The three-day National Conference on Geodesy is aimed at advancing geodesy for integrated earth observation, precision positioning and sustainable development.
