Gautama Buddha’s ashes, which were temporarily taken from India to Sri Lanka, arrived at Kanchipuram today. The holy ashes were brought to Buddha Vihar, where Buddha devotees paid their respects. Buddhist Priest Rathina Therar led the solemn prayers on the occasion of the event. Prayers were also offered at the Buddha Stupa and shrines of Bodhi Dharmar, a teacher who practised ancient meditation techniques including Vipasana and Manimegalai a literary character who practised Buddhist way of enlightenment. Kanchipuram is a major centre of Buddhism in South India from the 2nd Century BCE during the Pallava Dynasty.
